Bullets are owned by KMartin Consortium - whether they're going strong is anyone's guess.

Stewart has a good ability to recruit however Radford certainly has the ability to coach, strategize and develop due to his experience, maybe Radford coaches Stewart plays a CJ Bruton type roll ASS coach working with he basketball ops side of things.

Wright and Gaze would be terrible, but still way better than Radford.

Stewie does know how to recruit, has had talented teams that he has coached. Not convinced yet of his X and O ability but if he is able to recruit a NBL equivalent to what he recruited for SEABL he will have a great team.
Radford backs himself as Mr Basketball Tas / developer of talent, I am not sure if this translates to a great NBL coach. He does not have the whole of the state on board but I believe he should be part of the NBL team, Stewie could be in a OPs role.
Having them both on board would be smart maybe if possible underneath a Head Coach

I like Waxy Walker and he is Tasmanian, but I think he has his work cut out for him to still be in the league when the Tasmaniacs are introduced to the league and he doesn't seem like the end of the bench leader such as Mika at the Bullets or Wagstaff at the Wildcats, would anyone want him?
Matty Knight is also from Tasmania but does he have any ambitions to become a coach in any capacity and would he like a return home?
Hugh Greenwood is another from the Apple isle but would he be keen to join the team, would he come with a list of demands such as playing time or even a starting role?
I feel that although this is team Tasmania, we may lack actual Tasmanians in the team (would love to see Goulding and Gibbo there) but you'd imagine besides Moller that will be highly sought after, this team will end up with a few players that feel they are worth more than what others will pay them and join this team, for some reason Daniel Kickert comes to mind but please be retired by then.

Stanwix, Armstrong, Richards, Krebs, Deans, Clarke, Boucher are some of the names (sons of guns most of them) that are the future of Tasmanian basketball.

Vince will bring a coach from interstate and the assistants will most likely be the two mentioned.
Gibson will play a season, maybe as playing ass, and Matty Knight is coaching in WA so might put his hand up for a ass role.
Delly could be a marquee signing as well as Goulding.
They will need to bring in at least 9.

A lot of posts over time insisting Goulding will go to Tasmania, just because hes from there.
Not a lot of players actually play in their home town anymore. Any other reasons why Goulding would want to leave Melbourne as I cant really see it happening.
Chris Goulding spent the first eight years of his life in Tasmania. If he plays for Tasmania is will be because of career opportunities or $$$.
Vince Craveli, rumours are he will be interim CEO to set team up with a local coach. Stewart has runs on the board, he probably isn't the best x and o man but there are good assistants for that.

I'm certainly not going to speak for Tasmanians, but IMHO people need to let go of the "home grown" idea, especially initially.
It's tough enough with a relatively small population to begin with, but then you will always have good local players that end up elsewhere. So focusing too heavily on local talent can be detrimental.
And in the NBL, assembling a good core of Aussie players is tough at the best of times. Brisbane is still struggling to get it right. You basically have to start with the list of available free agents, and take it from there.
And I agree that you need to start early with a good GM, who can start reaching out and building ties.
Coach Liam Flynn to assist Stewart as he is the best Xs & Os guy in Aus. Might even poach Andrew Jantke now Wright is gone as he is probably the best development and most connected coach in Aus.

The only people that know (possibly) what is going on is the NBL. I doubt they do. They are bleeding to keep everything together. They now allow Cotton to re sign for more. No hard cap, no leadership.

Breakers in their first season went with home grown local talent and were well off the mark.
A lot of those guys eventually developed into productive NBL players but they didn't start winning until they had poached some guys with proven track records in the league like CJ Bruton.
Only once NZ had a developmental pathway program in place for a few years were they able to win consistently with mostly locals.
Most people would rather support a team of mercenaries that win than locals losing.

it can be a mix of both ie mercenaries and a couple of locals. The team needs the best in place, including the coach. There is talent here in Tas but it needs structure and opportunity. Pathways including NBL1 to NBL need to be in place, like all professional franchises it will not rely on locals alone but be a team the state is proud.
Back in the day the Devils were at their best when locals from across the state including Bellchambers, Stewie, Nash, Estcourt played for them. They never had the connection with the community across the state right. If this team gets it right it will work well.
Lots of other steps still need to be taken ie the CEO / GM / CFO / Comms etc to be in place as well as clear timelines on the DEC being upgraded.
It needs to be done properly.

Liam coaches Hapoel Jerusalem in the Israeli league and the Basketball Champions League. When seasons were stopped this year they were 17-4 in Israel and 11-3 in the Champions League.

The GM / CEO roles are crucial, as evidenced by Tommy Greer at South East Melbourne Phoenix. He has been very impressive, given he has the benefit of working in Australia's basketball heartland but he has the community onside and recruited smartly both with the coach and players.
Hope Tas have a similar GM lined up who will put the work in - the benefits will be huge ie bringing the state together.

Rojo for x and o's is good, but people skills and players respect is substandard. Norwood was most successful having Cooper head coach who did have the respect of the players and was able to control a couple of siblings on those teams. Whilst the argument for Simons success, he's always had a big budget and talent level superior to most teams locally. From memory he has a fairly well paid job outside of basketball, why would he rip up roots to go to expansion team in Tassie.
As for the guy that knows "Jenkie" so well, maybe check with him how to spell his name. Even his Janx is a better effort.

I did wonder about the spelling of Jantke? too for somone that knew so much. once this covid thing disappears Kestmen had better pull his finge out in a hurry. I also hope that Gutwein gets a move on with building the promised new courts. But if the NBL doesn't go ahead they don't need to be at the DEC.
The Tas Premier has today reconfirmed the infrastructure commitment related to the Tas NBL team and noted that there are only a small number of minor issues to be resolved before an agreement is signed for the Tas team to commence in 2020-21. Sounded like those issues may be resolved this week.
Now if we can just shift this discussion away from SA based club coaches, and associated angst...

Where did you hear this above? Gutwein has previously confirmed that the new courts finances are ready to go. The Tassie side will be in the 21/22 NBL season.
The NBL need to get a move on with this and prioritise finalising the Tassie deal.

The Mercury is reporting today that the final paperwork has been signed between the Tasmanian Government and the NBL for the new team to start in 2021/22. An announcement is happening today.

The Mercury can reveal the Tasmanian Government and NBL owner Larry Kestelman have finally signed the deal that will see the state re-enter basketball's big league, and the DEC will get its much-needed facelift.
TASMANIA is officially back in the NBL, the DEC will get its much-needed facelift and Hobart’s northern suburbs will receive almost $220 million worth of infrastructure build.
The Mercury can reveal the Tasmanian Government and NBL owner Larry Kestelman have finally signed the deal that will see the state re-enter basketball’s big league, with the announcement to be officially made today.
The first step will be a taxpayer-funded $68.5 million redevelopment of the 30-year-old DEC, including the building of a new $20 million four-court multisport indoor facility next door.
This will open the door for the planning approval process to begin for a $150 million investment from Mr Kestelman’s company, the LK Group, for a shopping, hotel and restaurant precinct at the adjacent Wilkinsons Point.
The deal also includes a $2 million a year State Government sponsorship for at least the first five seasons, and comes after the Glenorchy City Council agreed to sell the DEC to the government for $8 million back in February.
It will be the first time Tasmania has been in the NBL since the demise of the Devils 25 years ago, as well as bringing vital economic stimulus into post-COVID Hobart, Premier Peter Gutwein said.
"This development will unlock significant economic development, attract investment and create hundreds of jobs," Mr Gutwein said.
“This is how we’re rebuilding Tasmania, building on our strengths and providing opportunities for Tasmania, including national league participation, to create new jobs, future investment and economic development.
“We’re proud to be a major sponsor of a Tasmanian NBL team, and the opportunities it provides for grassroots pathways and player development in our state.”
The team will be the NBL’s 10th, and will enter the competition in time for the 2021-22 season.
The deal comes after more than a year of tough negotiations that were also set back by the COVID-19 outbreak that saw a hiatus for more than two months after the in-principle agreement was announced in February.
Some feared the outbreak and the economic impact of coronavirus would kill off the state’s chances.
But Mr Kestelman said it was full steam ahead now for the league’s newest team.
“This is great news for the NBL and the people of Tasmania, who have showed amazing passion to help bring this to life,” he said.
“The final agreement means we can start immediately on the next steps for the planning and upgrade of the DEC, in preparation for a Tasmanian team to take to the court for the start of the 2021-22 season.
“The NBL team will deliver important economic and tourism benefits for Tasmania and bring new jobs and investment to the state.
“Basketball is a global sport, and the NBL team will showcase Tasmania on the national stage and around the world.”
Mr Kestelman said as well as redeveloping the DEC, the process of building the club would now begin in earnest as well.
“This will include engaging with the local community to help choose the name, as well as starting the recruitment of people to lead the club into the future,” he said.
“We will be looking to immediately recruit a CEO to lead the club, and we will work closely with the Tasmanian Advisory Board and the local community to establish a team that all Tasmanians can be proud of, on and off the court.

No bait - you get a high level European A grade coach, two guys with very strong Tassie links and the best junior development guy in Aus. It'd surely cost them a pretty penny to put it together but looks like they're willing to spend up to get the right people. Good on them!

Stewart did very well in the old seabl with teams. His last premiership team weren't stacked though Moller was great and Nichols did good for his size. Rest were basically locals.
Stewart isn't a marketer. He's a great coach and has one of the most successful seabl coaching records ever. He won't be head coach. Radford maybe an Asst perhaps Stewart too. Those 2 are the most qualified in Tasmania.

TASMANIA'S NBL franchise has appointed former Hobart Charger Jorrick Chivers as general manager operations.
The club is steadily piecing together its off-court set-up as it builds to an announcement of a team name on October 1 before entering the competition in season 2021-22.
Chivers has a long association with Tasmanian basketball.
He was a member of the Hobart Chargers’ 2000 and 2002 championship teams and an assistant coach of the Hobart Huskies in the 2019 NBL1 season.
His father Mark Chivers was Chargers coach from 1997-2007.
Chivers comes from the role of business manager at Mac-Killop College on Hobart’s Eastern Shore.
"Basketball has played a major role in my life and I can’t wait to be involved in the sport again and help grow Tasmania’s new NBL team," Chivers said.
“It’s an exciting opportunity for Tasmania and I look forward to helping to bring the club to life and building a team all Tasmanians can be proud of.”
CEO Simon Brookhouse said he was delighted to welcome Chivers to the club.
“The Chivers family has a long association with Tasmanian basketball and Jorrick’s strong operations skills and his basketball background will be invaluable,” Brookhouse said.
“We have said we want to appoint Tasmanians where possible and this is a key role that will help lay the foundations for the club.”
Brookhouse said the club would announce more of its off-court appointments in the coming “weeks and months”.
A shortlist of team names has been whittled down to four with one of Mountaineers, Jack Jumpers, Tridents and Pride to be announced on October 1.
