NSW person here in awe. Meanwhile in Bankstown, holes in the roof means putting out buckets on the court to collect rainwater. You get out what you put in - Melbourne metro is the heart of Aust basketball because of their preparedness to invest in such great facilities. Well done.

it works in many ways - creates employment, community pride, exercise for all, brings in tourism, many levels of the community get buy in, increases the profile of the sport, gives youth a meaningful facility - well done on people being that organized to make it happen.

The support the Vic government gives basketball in terms of facilities is amazing - a 17 court complex costing over $130m.
I suppose not surprising as I understand that 50% of all junior basketball players in Australia are in Victoria.
While it is great the previous Liberal SA government gave funds for 4 new courts at the showground the reality is that the current state Labor government is much more into supporting AFL, Cricket and Soccer rather than basketball.
It would be great if the SBC had grandstands, aircon in courts 1-3 and more office space.
Disappointing as SA and Vic were the real foundation state for basketball in Australia in the 50's & 60's.
But, at least we should be happy that over the last 4 years we have seen the SBC. Lights, St Clair, Mitchell Pk, St Francis all come online with Marion in the works.
Our 2 biggest problems, referee retention and facilities.

SA just needs to keep campaigning for better facilities with all parties - govt, private businesses, local councils / MPs. It's important for our youth and economy (employment, tourism) "if you build it they will come"

How good is that?
The one nit I'll pick is the capacity is still low for a pro teams to play most games there which is unfortunate, but in terms of a training environment, what more could you want?
Ok, one more nit, PT links are pretty damn terrible out there but given its not likely to be a primary playing arena that isn't too bad and clearly is convenient for the many basketball families that live out that way.

Sydney only build football league stadiums, knock down stadiums less than 30 years old to build new ones.
Smith has done a great job at hoops capital largely with all his own money.

Getting into and out of the SBC with a single lane in and out was horrendous prior to the expansion, and will now only be worse. Road and PT infrastructure also needs upgrading.
